September 24 15:36 2020

A dialogue promoting the culture along the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal will be held in Beijing from Sept 23 to 24.

Themed around “Beijing and Hangzhou on the Canal, Build a Shared New Future”, the second edition of the dialogue is aligned with the national guideline to protect and take advantage of resources in the Grand Canal so as to turn it into a platform for open communication with the world.

The event will feature interactions with mayors from world canal cities such as Egypt and the Netherlands.

Beijing’s Summer Palace, which was built in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) as a replica of the iconic West Lake in Hangzhou, will be another highlight of the event. The 270-year-old royal garden will host artistic troupes from Zhejiang and unveil the culture and tourism promotional week of the province.

The event will also exhibit the fruitful results achieved by Beijing and China Hangzhou in boosting the financial development of their cultural sectors. Artists, actors, calligraphers and writers from the two cities will be invited on a ride of the Grand Canal where they will get to show off their talents.

Digital methods have brought alive cultural legacies along the Hangzhou section of the Grand Canal, local media reported on June 22.

To celebrate the 6th anniversary of Hangzhou‘s Grand Canal being inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list, cultural relic protection authorities in the city in Zhejiang province held an online promotional week from June 21 to 27 to share stories about the historic site.

Also, a night ride on the Grand Canal is a popular leisure option for Hangzhou natives and tourists.
