Technology Company COMATCH Discusses the Impact of Gig Economy and Flash Organizations on Business and Independent Consulting Trends

New York, NY – December 3, 2019 – COMATCH, one of the world’s leading online access points  for independent management consultants and industry experts, today released its predictions for the consulting industry in the upcoming year. The gig economy has dramatically shifted American’s views on employment and this trend is poised to not only continue but expand significantly in 2020. A recent report from Deloitte indicated that self-employment in the U.S. is expected to triple next year to 42 million people. Meanwhile, according to Randstand’s Workplace study, more than half of the U.S. workforce will be a part of the gig economy by 2025.

“The opening of our U.S. office in New York City was directly related to our predictions for tremendous growth in the U.S. market,” said Sven Merten, Managing Director U.S. at COMATCH. “During the first six months of this year alone, the number of independent consultants in the COMATCH U.S. network doubled. This is largely due to the increasing demand for specialized experts, as well as the surge of Americans gravitating towards freelance work and independent consulting. We expect these numbers to grow significantly in 2020 and anticipate an even greater adoption of independent consulting services by organizations throughout the U.S.”

Companies are moving more quickly and therefore will experience an increase in project work, with many of these projects demanding highly specialized skills. To stay agile and lean not all expertise will be available within the organization, so working in Flash Teams, quickly assembled teams of external and in-house experts that dissolve after a project is successfully finished, will likely be the answer.

COMATCH is reinventing the way businesses access and retain the best expertise by combining innovative technology with a revolutionary approach to vetting, categorizing, and assembling top-tier talent. This approach allows the company to exert significant influence on the way the U.S. market accesses, utilizes, and understands the full range of available consulting services.

According to a recent COMATCH survey of independent consultants, more than 90 percent of respondents indicated that they were as happy or happier working as an independent consultant as compared to their experience in traditional, paid employment.  The two primary reasons: the opportunity to make a greater income and the greater level of responsibility associated with the work.

“Independent consulting is becoming an increasingly more attractive employment option as a result of changing priorities and America’s evolving views on employment,” continued Merten. “Consulting work offers a flexible and lucrative career that provides specialized working professionals with the opportunity to take advantage of the benefits of the gig economy, while maintaining financial and employment security. At the same time, today’s economic environment requires companies to maintain a high degree of flexibility in their workforce to adapt to demand spikes and quickly changing trends. As a result, 2020 will see an escalation in both the number of independent consultants in the U.S., as well as an increase in the number of companies requiring their services.”
