South African Non-Profit Organization is taking School Child Safety to another Level

February 06 05:34 2019

Child safety, kidnapping, and child trafficking is a global problem with 1 child going missing every 5 hours in South Africa alone. According to UNICEF and World Concern some estimates have as many as 1.2 million children begin trafficked every year. With these terrifying statistics a non-profit organization Qi9 Sustainable Development has taken the initiative to partner with IT companies and developers to create a school tracker bag.

The School tracker bag has unique features that will allow parents instant access to their child’s whereabouts. The technology has breakthrough features that include Geo-fencing and Geo-time messaging that can detect when the school bag travels beyond the school perimeters. The application will send instant notifications to the parent as an alert that the school bag has not reached home or it is traveling outside the demarcated school or town.

The technology comes with a mobile application that is available on Android and IOS mobile devices. For parents that don’t have access to smart phones a call centre has been setup to allow parents to call in. Each bag will have a unique username and password to verify the identity and the authenticity linked to the tracker bag. This initiative will allow every parent the access and comfort to their child’s location and safety.

This Tracker bags has already been approved by the local schools, communities, and municipalities with a rollout starting end of February 2019.

For the majority of South African parents who are exposed to poverty and whose kids are most vulnerable, these tracker bags will assist them to locate the whereabouts of their children before, during and after school hours. Each tracker bag including mobile app maintenance will costs $50 (US dollars) or R560 South African Rands.

The Non Profit is currently embarking on a crowd funding drive to raise money to buy 100 000 school bags before the end of 2019 and another 200 000 school bags before the end of 2020. Their call to action is for all individuals, corporates and non-profits to donate and help kids stay safe. Corporates or individuals can also adopt a school and sponsor school bags for the entire learners attending that school.

Everyone can become a partner and assist the Nonprofit to achieve their goals. Qi9 Sustainable Development wants to extent this initiative across South African borders and other overseas countries that are also in need of this technology.
